is the former director of the Berlin Social Science Center. Since 2020 he has been a Senior Fellow at the Democracy Institute of the Central European University in Budapest. His most recent work, entitled Im Zwielicht – Zerbrechlichkeit und Resilienz der Demokratie im 21. Jahrhundert (In the Twilight – On the Fragility and Resilience of Democracy in the Twenty-First Century) was published by Campus Press in September, 2023. 

is Professor Emeritus of Political Science at the University of Dortmund and, until September of 2021, the Editor-in-Chief of the journal Neue Gesellschaft/Frankfurter Hefte. His most recent book, entitled Die Unbelangbaren: Wie politische Journalisten mitregieren, was published by Suhrkamp in 2015.

is an emeritus professor at the Institute for Political Science at Berlin's Humboldt University nd serves on theadvisory council of Neue Gesellschaft | Frankfurter Hefte.
